Balayage is calling, pick up!
What is a Balayage and why should I book it?
Time for some straight-up balayage facts! Balayage is the ultimate technique when it comes to versatility in the world of hair colour. Whether you want a low-maintenance, lived-in vibe or a high-impact, bright blonde with a touch of blending, balayage has you covered.
Traditional foils are all about getting as close to the root as possible, often leading to an endless cycle of wanting more and more blonde (we’ve all been there!). Before foils to the root, balayage actually came to the party first! Over the years as trends come and go, balayage techniques just keep evolving to suit the client and really give them what they need.
I know, I know… so many questions! But don’t worry—I’ve got all the answers (and maybe a few hair secrets up my sleeve). Let’s chat balayage!
What exactly is dimension in hair colour?
Balayage isn’t just freehand painting; it can include foils utilising different weaves to create a multitude of looks. Balayage techniques incorperate your hair’s natural depth to make the blonde pop. Without depth, blonde can look flat because there’s nothing for the light to bounce off.
The magic of balayage truly lies in the pockets of depth (dimension) as it enhances your natural colour! In a typical balayage service we perfectly place a combination of highlights and lowlights, creating effortless dimension and a seamless grow-out. No harsh lines, no constant touch-ups, just gorgeous, customised colour that works for you.
How long does it last?
It truly depends on you! If you’re looking for something that will take you through the next 6 months the foils can be customised to suit that, meaning you may need more spaced out foils and feathering to the root to maintain softness as it grows. A balayage service can see clients through 8 - 12 weeks typically, if you’re wanting to keep the hair glossy with toners, trims or treatments in between. The options don’t stop there, some choose to add in smaller foil services such as a face frame or part line touch up which can create an illusion of a full head service!
In comparison to a full head of foils to the root without any root blending, you would be expected to touch up your colour with additional foils within 6 - 8 weeks. For those who choose on scalp bleach this usually requires touch ups in some cases at the 4 - 5 week mark! So wild!!
Over the years I have found most clients at some stage make the switch to a lived in colour to really create a look that will last! I hope this gives a better understanding of the finer details of the world of balayage techniques!
Lots of love,
